Mary Elizabeth Alvarez, MD, Assistant Professor, Internal Medicine-Psychiatry, received her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine and completed the combined Internal Medicine/ Psychiatry residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Dr. Alvarez also holds a Masters of Public Health (International Health) from Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Swarthmore College.
She directed the combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry residency at Tulane University, and her clinical work at Tulane included outpatient and residential addiction treatment, adolescent medicine and integrated psychiatry within both academic and community-based primary care clinics.
As the Director of Integrated Behavioral Health in Primary Care, she is implementing the new Integrated Behavioral Health model at Sargeant and Lincoln Avenue Health Centers.
